This insect study centre has the following interactive features from the top-down. It is made from FSC-certified timber.
COSY HAY LOFT – A chalet-style insect shelter and refuge from predators.
BUG ZONE – Specially prepared bamboo nesting tubes for solitary bees and other over-wintering insects, including Ladybirds and Lacewings.
OVER WINTERING ZONE – The second storey has open side access and an overwintering chamber ready to fill with bark, straw or leaves.
INTERACTIVE BEE TRAYS – Slotted wooden interactive nesting trays for Mason bees, Leafcutter Bees and other insects.
Where to place: Site facing south to the southeast in a sheltered area 1.0 – 2.0 metres high.
Maintenance: To maintain the green finish, a water-based, green paint may be applied annually. Replacement wooden tubes and paper beelining tubes may be purchased for advanced bee management.
